It gets up to a speed of 25 to 30 km. Gary, my colleague, who cycles a hundred miles a day for leisure, might pass me at that speed on his much more expensive racing bicycle, but he’d break down in minutes on this rough terrain the Kenda balloon tires handle marvellously.
Slower is better hunting and this electric bike was perfect for adjusting speed to terrain and watching for animals. It’s definitely ‘stealth’ , so quiet that only deer would hear it. Deer hear everything, which is why the most successful hunters sit in ambush on busy deer trails. This mode of hunting though is less likely to be successful in comparison to ambush or even stalking but the only better form of hunting for sheer fun is motorcycle, the noise of which does tend to scare the game away.
Actually there’s an argument that animals hear high pitched sounds even better so electric motors aren’t going to change the game much. This though is a combination of bicycling and electric so I cycled as much as I could to be quiet and to preserve the battery. With a combination of electric and human muscle power I only used up less than half the battery in an hour or more of use.
I have a Honda 2000 generator along and my truck, both of which I could use to re charge the battery. I’ve a second battery too which I carry for emergency and to get me back home if I go too far, no different than the extra little can of gas I carried on my motorcycle or quad.
It certainly doesn’t give the time or distance that I get with a motorcycle or quad but it’s more exercise and the quiet is a true joy. It won’t carry game home like a quad but I can shoot game and go get the truck to bring it out.
