I arrived late at church today just in time to hear Rev. Emille’s Sermon on the St. John’s accounting for the last days on earth of Jesus, those seeing him after the crucifixion and the breakfast of fish on the beach. I’d read this but forgotten the story so enjoyed the review and reminder. Peter who’d denied Jesus was reinstated. It was a moving time.
Rev. Emilie had been away in Argentina serving the community supporting the saint hood of Oscar Romero, the Bishop of San Salvador who was assassinated while celebrating mass in the chapel. He was the strongest advocate for the poor and marginalized. Pope Paul II bestowed on him the title of Servant of God which lead to his beatification on the path to being formally named a Saint by the church.
At the end of the service we always recite this lovely prayer, “Glory to God, whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation in the Church and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever, Amen.”
After the service I actually had the time to stop for coffee in the church hall. The cake was delicious. Donna who manages the St. Barnabus Thrift store offered to show me it as I had asked if I could make some donations as part of my attempt to lighten my load in my storage lockers.
I was truly amazed. I didn’t realize how big it was or how well organized. Incredible little thrift shop off the beaten track.
