Loss at Christmas

It's coming up Christmas.
I was woken from sleep at 3 am. Nightmares.  Again.  Wet pillow.  Tears.
I was reminded today of a woman who had the courage to refuse an abortion and how she was hounded for years after and abused terribly till she was no more.  Everyone who tried to support her was attacked viciously.  I feel I've come close to pure evil again and was strongly reminded of this today.
I found myself missing a lawyer friend, Dugald Christie. We sat in church and talked about God, love, ethics, morality, society on drives to the jail where he got  me doing pro bono work.  I was blessed to know him.  He was killed.
I learned of another patient who died today. HIV and drug addiction.  I talked with him of his whole life.  So many fine chapters in that blessed book. These last few pages were miserable and his death is a kind of blessing. I'll miss him.  Another patient hung himself earlier this fall. He'd been turned away from the hospital and refused services.  We did our best in the community but it wasn't good enough. We have no resources and we are punished for caring.  Our thinkings is wrong because we're not looking at things from the perspective of profit and these people simply aren't profitable.
There's more talk of euthanasia for the elderly.  Legalize marijauna, give them cake, have everyone stoned and it's Matrix and the Holocaust all over again but now we'll all be 'high' so it will be okay.
I feel so alone at times.
I miss my mother and father and aunt and grandparents.  They're dead and I'm old and it sometimes seems so sad.  I pick myself up and pray and pray. I meditate and I try to exercise. The pain gets to me more some days.  I'm blessed beyond belief but I grieve.
Loss is loss. There's no getting around it. I miss people who have gone.
I miss Jesus. I think of him being killed by Herod and Pontius Pilate and Peter being crucified upside down by Nero and stupidly I'm reading about William Wallace tortured and quartered by Edward Plantanget.  These are the real morality tales.
I should be reading about birds and flowers.  I think adults who have children have a buffer, they get to read all the fairytales over and over.  I miss the fairytales.
I don't have answers or solutions.  Mostly questions.  I dare not ask why anymore. Mostly I just ask, where?  'Where are you Jesus?'
The great lie of the secular world is that atheists are foisting the notion that theists are killers but the only religion of atheism is communism. Russian Communists killed 80 million people in very few years. Chinese Communists killed 120 million people. And I just came from Cambodia where Cambodian communists, the latest generation of atheist government, killed 3 million in record time, 4 years, more than a third of the countries population of 8 million.
I swore on a Bible today.  I liked that,  It felt good under my hand.  In a break I read psalms.  They were comforting as they always are.  Still I'm sad.  So very very very sad. But this too will pass. It's just a hiccup. I could take a drug, smoke some grass, have some wine, not 'feel', 'numb' myself out. I tried that years ago after the divorce, after being held hostage, the life threats and the deaths, so many, back then. HIV and suicide.  "Man up!!!"  "Shake yourself out of it."
I remember the shame and embarrassment I felt kneeling and crying in the hospital corridor when the boy died despite all I did to save his life. He died because he stopped taking the medication that was keeping him alive and here I am years later, still crazy after all these years, trying to stop people from taking drugs that are killing them.  Will I ever float down stream?
I sat with a colleague and felt his fear at the threat of being hounded in retirement. He's scared about the babies he delivered. He did his best. I know. He's the best doctor I know but we're not perfect and now there's so much money to be made by destruction. No one's into creation. It's out of vogue.  Bankers even bid on insurance against collective suicides they've engineered for power and greed and we're pawns in the insanity of politics.
I'd rather be in a storm at sea alone than in the crush of media hype hysteria. First they built enough bombs to kill us all a hundred times over then they were supposed to stop that and needed a whole bunch more money to clean up the mess they made and then some of that clean up didn't work and Syria has gassed its people and it's no long global but regional and we're supposed to make sense of it with all the false prophets and misinformation.
Trust me I'm a politician.  Trust me I'm a reporter. Trust me I'm a government representative. Trust me I'm a lawyer.  But if I say 'trust me, I'm a doctor', everyone thinks that's funny.  Weird and twisted humour this planet earth has.
I probably should walk the dog more along the river where I take pictures of the beautiful birds that live there year round.  I could lie on the beach.  I could sit a lot longer in Rome churches with the smell of incense and the place of worship.
I'm an ecumenicalist.  I believe that all spiritual seekers are on the same path.  I pray to the 'saints of all religion' and believe that Buddha, Mohammed, Moses, Jesus all were further along the path than their followers. I see these spiritual men walking out at the front where God is calling to his son and all his children, to come home.  And death is that home for me but I can't get there till I love this gift of life to it's fullest. And I don't feel I'm living life as lovingly or as meaningfully, gratefully or graciously as God would have me.
The irony is I'm as likely to meet Spongebob in the afterlife.  Divine Comedy is what it is.
I'm kind of slouching towards Bethlehem.  I've got way too much attitude. I'm dragging a whole lot of luggage that's negative and resentful and poor me.  I'm so full of lust, sloth, gluttony, greed, and downright stupidity that I can't feel the wings of eagles or be lifted up to my Lord in Heaven.  I'm a slug wallowing in the dirt, hiding in fear a lot when I should be a kid in sandbox throwing the dirt in the sky.
I want to dance without pain, sing without hoarseness, laugh till tears stream down my cheeks.
I want Jesus.
The basic story is God was born man and killed by man. What could be simpler as metaphor.  Now I have to believe that God resurrects.  There is life after life and life after death and my family who have died, my friends who have died and my patients who have died are still alive, not just in my memory but where I can meet them again, like long lost friends, like high school reunions and comings home from distant lands.
Mary was like my mom, like every mom and Jesus was like me, like every baby.  And they had friends and they suffered governments and taxes and intolerance and greed and the powers of this world.  I've lived twice as long as Jesus and my mom lived longer than Mary and all of us have been living this metaphor myth story in our own lives as the cosmic Christ is within all of us.  God is born. God died. God will come again.  The trinity of father, son and holy spirit.  The beginning middle and end, Parent, child, holy spirit. But it's not linear. It's stellar
Contemplating the Christmas story. Advent and the coming of the king.  The servant king.  The message that God is a lover.
I have no children but my brother shares the men he and his wife created with me.  They're fine men.  I was with a friend and his sons. They're fine men too. They're all moving into marriage and having families.
The cycles go on.
I delivered a hundred babies, stopped an epidemic or two on Indian villages, saved a dozen infants with meningitis from brain damage.  All those nights without sleep. All those terrible unknown diseases. Being held hostage. Being attacked, The deliriums and dementias and the teams of people, teachers and friends.  I've been blessed to be a healer among healers.
When I studied buddhism and was a disciple and yogi in my 20's I learned about right living.  I figured that what Jesus did was right living.  So becoming a healer was okay and it's been okay.  It's been good.
I'm not allowed to do that so much anymore.  I feel I've been hi jacked for other purposes.  I keep thinking of missionary work.  But then I like my things.  I 'm a fat cat yuppie who lacks any real compassion, self centered, self serving, complaining, whining, twittering and face booking with my luxury computer and luxury I phone communication devices, and designer clothes and glorious motorcycle and fast sports car.  I worry about losing this hard won hard earned bit of the Canadian dream.
But I've not had heat secure for weeks and the water hasn't been sure. Basics like electricity are never things I can take for granted in my world. This cold snap caught me off guard, fighting beurocrats with too much tax dollars and not enough real work and no real life experience to learn humility.  I've no house and the really rich think I'm rich but my riches are my dog and a fishing rod and rifle.  I 'm a survivalist.
I can live off the sea or off the land. I haven't had much faith in governments and stupid people in groups not to crucify the citizenry collectively and have us all nuked and having to defend ourselves individually from zombie groups of marauder gangs.  I fear the break down of civilization and yet I've prepared for just that eventuality.  Boy Scout motto, always be prepared.
The core fear is what Pascal described as the God shaped hole inside me.  I can't find the architect God in the wall of the building. I have to find the light within that is the source of the light without. Easy enough to say and easy enough to talk about.
But
But
I pray and meditate and meditating am distracted by a myriad of 'things' in that quiet time when I listen for the wee small voice of God.
I would know you more fully, more surely more really. Let me be like you Jesus. Let me know you but lets accept you did the cross bit and that was for all of us so I can get down off the cross, take the nails out of my hands and feet that I keep putting there and use the wood to build a house.
I loved the 150 year old St. Thomas church where Steven Bell sang and played guitar last month. Now there was some mighty fine wood.
Maybe I can sleep again. The little dog is sleeping beside me.  I pray I'll be with God in my dreams. I love when I dream of family and dogs and friends who have gone before. I love the dreams of meetings and especially love the old ladies.  I'm walking towards the light, Jonah like, stumbling and twirling and back stepping , getting swallowed by whales,  staggering, side stepping, sashaying, skipping, hopping and crawling.  Sometimes it's so slow and other times its way too fast.
Thank you God for hope. Still my fear and comfort me in the loss.  Thank you for these days to come and Christmas.  Hi Jesus,  baby God.

Agenda 21

I just read Glen Beck's  haunting thriller, Agenda 21, written with Harriet Parke.  I innocently picked it up at the grocery store bookstore. I'd been hearing about the United Nations Agenda 21 for a couple of years from concerned friends.
A friend who escaped communism with his family to come live in Canada told me years ago that the communists failure politically wouldn't stop their goal at world domination and control. They would just shift their agenda to the 'environment'.
"Agenda 21 is a comprehensive plan of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by governments of the United Nations systems, Governments and Major Groups in every area in which human impacts on the environment. "
Everything a human does impacts on the environment.

"at it's core, Agenda 21,  is all about control, control over land , natural resources, and ultimately entire populations. It seeks to control the air (via regulations on carbon emissions), ground (via regulations on 'sustainable develop"), and sea (via environmental regulations).  In that way Agenda 21 is a lot like a war plan".
"Unsurprisingly, the language and objectives of Agenda 21 are the culmination of every Marxist/progressive fantasy developed over the last hundred years. From education to transportation to food and water, there is literally no area of human life that Agenda 21 does not attempt to regulate and control in some way.'
Developing countries will need to receive a 'substantial flow' of resources from the developed world, i.e. America, Canada, Western Europe and Australia.

Personally I've found the ones who like monetary flow best are bankers, lawyers and bureaucrats because then they can take their 'share'.  Governments are clearly, if anything, especially today about 'institutionalized baksheesh'.  The key factor to know about 'foreign aid' is that historically it rarely gets to who it was intended and the majority 'f hand outs' have served to 'enslave people' in comparison to the very programs that have been developed to enfranchise and locally develop self sufficiency and autonomy.
In the Downtown eastside, my local 'third world', the one I got involved with after I worked in the "third world' of Canada's northern Indian reserves.  For every Indian of the so called 'Indian problem' 2 white collar bureaucrats were receiving $100,000 or more to maintain the problem. In the downtown eastside the principle thrust of government investment now is into 'onsite' a hopeless program to maintain drug addicts in drug addiction by providing 'safe' injection sites rather than offering abstinence based therapies which are indeed what the rich and the professional are receiving.
All Marxist countries maintained Lennin's central idea of " dictatorship of the proletariat'.  Communist (big c ) is dictatorship with the leaders having dachas, mistresses, wealth beyond the average man's wildest dreams and the rest lving marginally.
A friend points out that Suzuki is a "privileged" and "elite'  environmentalist whose agenda would be that he maintain his power and dominance while others have their wealth and power redistributed to himself.  There is nothing new in this strategy. Just different names for the same old game.
What it means is that every Canadian, American, Australian and European will have their present assists halved or reduced even more by more taxation, more restriction and more redistrict ion. Apparently this will be for the benefit of other but by history those who take people's money to redistribute it must get their 'half' or 'more' first.  Little of this 'redistribution' 'dribbles' down.  In Canada this was most apparent with the multi millionaire Indian leaders while the majority of Indians went without.
The key word is 'equality'.  This is defined that everyone will have the same regardless of work and goes completely against 'meritocracy' and against human nature or even animal nature since only 'gangsterism' results in these kinds of system where some animals  are more important than others as the great novel "Animal Farm" so richly pointed out.
Political privilege is 'bought and sold' in Marxists countries with a vigour far greater than anything we know in western democracies. I found that Marxist bureaucrats figured they could 'extort' baksheesh for all actions that they did, not just those above and beyond. The corruption in centrally controlled countries is beyond anything we can imagine. We are innocent in comparison.
Now, if you have an apartment anywhere in the west consider that it will be halved and you will be required to pay 2 or 3 x what you are already paying for Agenda 21 to even begin.  If you have a car you can soon expect to have only a bicycle, 2 cars then for sure only one car.  There will be no sacrifice at the top just as the Indian leaders gladly took their million dollar salaries and the drug lords and pushers and government 'harm reduction' 'enablers' in the Downtown Eastside encourage others to reduce their 'share' while they amass more and more power and 'control'. It's all about control. it's all about you having 'control' taken from you by what ever means.
One day you're a farmer with a shot gun to protect you chickens from racoons and next day you are a 'criminal minded' gun owner.  One day you are a student with the belief that education is a 'right' and next day you are indebted for life with a degree that has a shelf life of less than five years.  You are promised health care in Canada but the rich go to private services or utilize the second 'tier' of health care going to the states while the rest are given the 'equality' of government health care 'wait lists' dying in hospital waiting rooms before even being able to see a doctor or nurse.
Das Kapital by Karl Marx has been around for a long time but few read it because it's as offensive and 'wrong' as a literal reading of the Koran, another book that has profound impact but that people don't read.  More know who the Kardasians are than who said 'make them eat cake' and why this is all important economically now.  The 'lies' are immense.  The emperor has no clothes.
Mein Kampf was written by Hitler in 1925 long before the ideas there expoused were acted on.
Now we have Agenda 21 and it behooves everyone to read clearly what it states and translate it's flowery language into the reality for you personally. Everyone reads these 'tracts' as if they are about someone else and the bad stuff will happen to them not us.  Well I've a dog. He's a little guy and his name is Gilbert.  Agenda 21 would not allow me to have a pet. It wouldn't allow me to "own' my sailboat. Indeed it would suggest that I should 'give' my sailboat to the authorities so they could use it for themselves under the auspices of helping environmentally underprivileged folk.
When I studied 'social justice' legislation I was frankly concerned because the model it followed was one of anti-individualism and rabid utilitarianism. This meant that the mediocre and mainstream would be privileged while the marginal truly would be removed as Stalin and Mao solved their problems of 'deviation'.
Environmentalists argue that we need to kill off people by the millions so that their particular 'spotted insect' will survive.  I don't want to die for their ideology and I've found over the years that those who want sacrifice expect others to do it, not themselves.  The United Nations bureaucrats who penned Agenda 21 were the most privileged people in their social spheres and their nations.  Having a position in the United Nations is even more lucrative and powerful and important than being an aid in Ottawa or  Washington. I'm not sure I want any more of these people telling me how I should be their slave and do as they say. Historically, these 'kind' of people are all about 'control' because they are so out of control themselves.
Freud said, late, very late indeed, only as he was being rescued and his friends, all less important than him, went on to die in concentration camps, "maybe the paranoids are right'.
Check out Agenda 21 and see if you like working twice as hard for twice as long for a tenth of what you receive now having all your 'stuff' redistributed to others whose only fault really was they weren't born in Canada or the United states and were brought up in corrupt countries which imprison, kill, shame or restrict anyone but a very few.  America was once the country with greatest potential of upward social mobility and the greatest social mobility in general i.e. FREEDOM.  It's a moot point.  Gangsters in Russia and China and Columbia drug lords are looking even better than Hollywood movie moguls.
But I may be wrong.  Government especially big government, and especially World Government probably is thinking out for me and wants what's best for me and will take care of me, my family, my dog, my money and my assets better than I can. That's been the history of governments since the Roman Empire, the Nazis and the Communists and everywhere until the idea of 'laissez fare' came along and people generally developed a 'healthy' concern about 'government' .  Indeed they actually had a 'magna carta' to question the 'divine right' of government and today it might be wise to consider Agenda 21 as it will cost you personally. It's written in almost as nice a way as Mein Kampf.
So lets just have a group hug and trust the environmentalist Marxists, alright. Especially you boys and girls.  Maybe if you smoke enough marijuana too it will all be okay.
Democracy isn't as important as 'spotted owls' ,is it?

Lawyers, Doctors and Life and Death

It is possible to get a law degree on line or by mail order.  There is no limitation to the size of a class for lawyers.  The only limit to the classroom size is sound system.  Lawyers could be trained in stadiums and shopping malls. There is further no direct correlations between the well being and health of a community and number of lawyers.  Law is an arts degree, albeit applied arts.  .
There are distinct limits to the number of doctors a community can produce because the process of learning medicine is hands on. It's a science and an art. Students must have A grades in both arts and science.  The learning of medicine involves dissecting bodies, touching abscesses and talking to dying people with contagious disease while worrying if you are getting the disease the dying person already has.  It's distinctly smelly and nauseating to be a doctor.
Lawyers avoid disease.  Their contact with disease is less that a check out girl's.
Doctors are trained in scientific reality.  There is gravity in their discussion.  Lawyers are trained in argument and are notorious for the 'emperor has new clothes'.  A good lawyer can convince you a serial pedophic murderer is not a bad guy and just didn't get enough cuddling and breast milk.
There is a surplus of lawyers and laws.  There is a shortage of doctors. There is a direct correlation between the health of a community and presence or absence of doctors.  Less than one doctor per 500 people there's a greater burden of disease in the community.
There is no correlation between lawyers and health and there is even further no correlation between lawyers and crime or justice in a community.
I like lawyers. I think they take amazing risks financially and rarely personally.
Who best to decide whether a person is dead.  Hands down a doctor.
Add a lawyer to the equation and there will be delay, increased cost and increased argument. Lawyers make the best critics and are by far the most litigious, political and argumentative.  Lawyers are wonderful where there are no limits on the overall costs of health care.  Lawyers are happiest to make the most money in any context.  They are even better where  time isn't  a factor (I was just in a court where the judge was trying a matter that had occurred over a decade ago when dinosaurs by scientific time sense had ruled the world).
Note, doctors live in a real world of biology and chemistry where seconds and nano seconds in decision making affect life and death. They're like the soldiers in the front lines whereas lawyers are more like the historians who discuss battlefields on Monday morning.
Right now in Ontario there is a tribunal for resolving death.  They leave it to doctors in most cases but now doctors have the burden of everyone looking over their shoulders so when they want  to they step in and discuss death.  It's a doctor, lawyer, layperson committee. I'm always suspicious of the lay persons. Who are these people and what political favour got them in these truly cudo positions.
If a person is dead a doctor wants to stop taking care of them. If there was no limit to resources and infinite funding for medical resources a lawyer would gladly maintain a dead person as they are like 'dead files' in the legal sense.  "Cold cases' in the police sense.  But doctors are devoted to the living and if anything would rather the dead cases be transfered as quickly as possible to the pathologist or mortuarian.
Is a person alive?  A doctor knows betters hands down over a lawyer.  To a lawyer life and death is more like the Monty Python joke about the 'Dead Parrot."  "It's a pretty parrot. Are you sure it's dead." "Yes, it's dead, you sold me a dead parrot."  "N o, it's just sleeping."
In all aspects of my medical care i make decisions about life and death.  I've done amputations and discarded dead babies and pronounced dozens of people dead.
Today a lawyer wants me to discuss these decisons with him.  For that to occur there needs to be another room in the hospital with a bed and 24 hour 7 day week call schedule and lawyers will have to be on call in the hospital even though they'd like to do 'call' from their homes over the phone maybe with skype or television camera.  "Yes, doctor, he looks dead to me over this android iphone . "  The cost of a parallel lawyer on call system will ensure that thousands of babies next year will die because there will not be a surgical unit as theres now another law office in the hospital. There already are law offices in the hospital and administration offices. There's just no room for doctors or patients.
Decisions happen when there's a dead person and doctors have to move the dead person out of the room to let in the live person. It's called triage.
CBC had a freak show sexist person on the radio this morning saying the days are gone when doctors make 'paternalistic' decisions.  What is this 'paternalistic" decisions business anyway.  A leading doctor in the American Civil War was a woman who pronounced dead thousands of soldiers. In 1930 30% of medical school classes were female. Half my class were female.  My teachers were female doctors.  I was called before the College of Physicians and Surgeons over the politically incorrect though clinically correct life saving care of a female child and was judged by 6 women doctors, not a man among them.  They were all extremely parental but not a single maternalistic one among them was paternalistic.  The judges are historically paternalistic but it's still truly frightening when the national  media has this level of sexism front and centre in Canada a supposedly civilized modern or post modern society.  CBC Freak show.
Yet the law would call me offensive if I were to speak disparagingly of the worst evils of maternalistic medical care as it endeavours to deny the dead life saving measures
To the best of my knowledge everyone wants to cherry pick. Right now that's what is happening in the life and death debate.  Doctors are doing it and doing it extremely well and have for centuries. Now lawyers want in on the action, not pro bono, but for a remarkable fee, and doctors would gladly include them. All I ask is that doctors be assured that they get paid equal to lawyers and given the same amount of time in the decision making process about life and death because last I looked the law was principally about money.
Medicine is about life and death.
That said I really admire all my lawyer colleagues who do work pro bono. They exist and are a grand bunch of men and women. Many in their profession frown on them as much as doctors are frowned on who by others standards 'give it away for free'.
All manner of folk don't want to believe their loved one is dead.  All manner of folk want miracles.  Everyone feels good as the gift giver.  No one likes to give bad news.  I confess I'm a little miffed to think that others want the cream and get in on the high profile and cherry picked cases and 'special cases' where they get to say "lets keep your loved one, dead as they may be, a while longer on the life support equipment that someone else is paying for."  I want to be a patient 'advocate'. That's what a doctor by definition was but now the word 'advocate' is restricted to the lawyer.  And soon there will need to be two lawyers because being of two minds about all things they always travel in pairs.
My friends are great lawyers and I love their company so I really appreciated hearing that US doctors are now having lawyers accompany them 24/7 like bodyguards. The amount of money I miss billing for in the public health system because I 'm so distracted by trying to keep people alive would likely pay for a similiar service.  The last hospital I worked at I used to coffee clutch every other day with the hospital lawyer.  But the hard decisions were always in the wee hours of the night when you needed a lawyer at your side to tell you what to do and then for that same lawyer to go to jail with you when you made the wrong decision.  I want someone to have my back and if it's going to double or triple or quadruple the cost of health care, so be it.
Every dead person, not just the pretty or rich ones, should have the same benefit and given an MRI or a lawyer I'm sure dead people would want the lawyer. They certainly don't care for another MRI after they're dead but lawyers who have comforted me in trying times could well comfort the dead.
Now the decision about life and death is going to the Supreme Court of Canada. This is the same group that is pro abortion and said babies were dead and could be killed even better when they were in fact alive. There's one lovely lady who was aborted and chucked in the waste only to live and go on today to give talks about life and death.  Everyone who decides life and death decisions should know her.
The Supreme Court of Canada are all lawyers.  The question is whether dead people need lawyers when we cut away the chaff and just as I saw doctors need lawyers and as lawyers go in pairs and hence need lawyers, the judges will likely say the dead need lawyers.
I am indeed looking forward to being asked by the Supreme Court of Canada to teach the new law students about death. I'm looking forward to showing them where to touch dead people, how neck vessels aren't often as useful as groin vessels for getting pulses. Further it's a particular smell that one needs to become intimitately aware of .So I want to take the lawyers and those lay persons out to smell floaters first. Then I'm going to go round the morgues and get the nostrils of lawyers really geared up for the more pungent death smells.  Gangrene is particularly memorable. Dissecting dead eyes so I gained a real appreciation of the dead gaze and would think dissecting dead people's eye should be part of the curriculum for sure.  I really enjoyed that. Studying the urine and feces and any genital discharge from the body was alwasy helpful.  I haven't noted genital discharge  so it's not been part of my observation but it's said to occur.  I've not needed it for decision making but using a stethescope and listening to chests and also know how to know when EKG machines are unplugged or malfunctioning was important.    I've found that looking at the  feces and urine and smelling sweat helped my decision. There's a whole lot more to the decision making too and frankly I've never met a lawyer to date who is certified qualified or capable of reliably knowing death. I further expect that my training of lawyers will require them to do at least one more year of law school to accomplish what is the bare minimum of knowledge about life and death in a scientific world.  I could teach a farmer a whole faster that a city slicker lawyer but that's a whole other kettle of fish.
I've not made a mistake yet pronouncing people dead.   All my dead have stayed dead but a few of my colleagues, those who worked more with the dead,  who were way better than me at telling death, had their pateints miraculously come a live.
I'd think therefore a religious leader and a lawyer should be present and trained in the decision making about life or death.  I'd be glad to do a year of life and death scientific training for religious leaders and extend their educational requirements in terms of cost and time as well. So now I've got a lawyer, a religious leader, and a lay person and because of that sexist CBC attitude I'd like some representatives from various gender groups.  Transexuals, homosexuals and lesbians shouldn't be excluded.  As well, a random assortment of cultural groups or perhaps the whole United Nations could be present. .  Finally I knew when my grandmother was dead as a child. Most likely by luck. But I've known children who knew things were alive which old folk didn't. So I'd say we should have a child making rounds everyday with me.  It's a committee then and government loves a committee because then no one is accountable and everyone can pass the buck.  Of course the expansion of hospitals will cost billions so that my entourage will be able to go from room to room in the hospital. Probably twenty or thirty lanes will reduce likelihood of foot traffic jams between wards.
But I'm a private person and when I die the last thing I'd want is a committee about.  At most I'd like a doctor and a family member and if I don't have a family member I'd take a friend, a religious leader or a lawyer.  Hell, a cowboy or fireman would be good too but then I'm not fussy.
What I really think is that we should all accept that we need a living will and when we go for our driver's lesson we should have a box to check off.  When you're dead do you want to be dead and stay dead or do you want to come back to life.  Only some of the people I resuscitated thanked me. The others hated me till they died.  I'd prefer the lawyers take the ones who hated me for resuscitating them while I'll be glad to continue to care for the ones who are grateful that I saved their lives.
