I am hopeful when I hear more and more people speaking up for the community and profession. The people I most admired are withdrawing from the controversial areas of medicine. I was more keenly interested in spiritual psychiatry having done an MDiv, studied many years in theology, teaching courses and enjoying the British Medical Associations Spiritual Psychiatry. It's mandatory in Britain and the US but locally it's deeply frowned on. Here euthanasia, abortion, materialism, aetheism, addiction, dialectics and bioethics are the haute couture. So far much of the bioethics I see being celebrated is not like these authors who remind me of my studies of Aristotelian Ethics with emphasis on the Good. Instead there's this doggerel social darwinism and the attempt to put perfume on decaying bodies. A Jewish colleague who had survived Auschwitz, and was someone I so appreciated as a mentor described the ideas of political correctness as 'maggots crawling off the dead bodies of Marx and Freud". He was as pilloried for his contributions as my other colleague mentor a brilliant psychiatrist who had been a spit fire pilot in the Battle of Britain. Most recently my mentor who was awarded by the Pope for his work was subjected to outright persecution because he like the others were frankly ahead of their times. They all were going strong till 70's expressing truth from experience that is smothered by the Darth Vaders of this age. My preference is for spiritual psychiatry because I believe that philosophy is really just a religion of materialism today as academically practiced. We are more moved by Steven Jobs and NASA and rightly so. At least my theological colleagues have less difficults with Higgs Particle so recently found.haykindhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07390376509834647445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2142327341608998711.post-9081685548714281192012-04-19T00:15:20.083-07:002012-04-19T00:15:20.083-07:00As for 'perfectionism', I was told in year...As for 'perfectionism', I was told in years of therapy and training that I was decidedly 'psychologically minded'. Psychological mindedness is the ability to tolerate the tension of opposites. I've long argued that extremists never appreciate the safety of their positions because they are narcissistically overwhelmed by their one sided bullet holes. Moderates such as my self who sit dead centre taking a middle position are riddled with holes from every side, front and back. It is in the middle that trench warfare occurs and where eurekas are heard. Extremists simply meet out the outer edges of their minds, like the Nazis and Communists. It's why Jesus said 'love your neighbour' and Martin Buber sought the 'thou' .haykindhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07390376509834647445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2142327341608998711.post-85608283557471547632012-04-19T00:09:09.352-07:002012-04-19T00:09:09.352-07:00I appreciate your thoughts but my impression is th...I appreciate your thoughts but my impression is that the good doctors are collectively burnt out.
